Brief History
Dharma Wanita
Persatuan (DWP) was founded on August 5, 1974, initiated by First
Lady Tien Soeharto with the support of Amir Machmud, Chairman of the
KORPRI Advisory Board. The initial membership consisted of the wives of Civil
Servants (PNS), the wives of military personnel, and employees of State-Owned
Enterprises (BUMN).
The primary purpose of its establishment was to develop the potential of its
members in supporting national development through social, economic, and
cultural activities.
During the Reformation
Era of 1998, DWP transformed into an independent, non-political
social organization and adopted the name Dharma Wanita Persatuan. This
new name was formally ratified during the Extraordinary National Congress
(December 7, 1999), which also approved the new Articles of Association and
Bylaws (AD/ART) and elected Dr. Nila F. Moeloek as the first Chairwoman.
As the largest
organization representing the wives of State Civil Apparatus (ASN), DWP
currently operates under Law No. 17/2013 on Mass Organizations and Law
No. 5/2014 on ASN. During the 4th National Congress (December 2019),
